What's On


The main aim of The Old School House is to host a wide range of artistic events.  From poetry to comedy productions, popular music to classical, arts exhibitions, paintings to embroidery, featuring local, national and international artistes.

All events are booked through our office on 01969 624510, unless otherwise stated.

The cafe and licensed bar will be open for all major events and film screenings as well as special occasions.


 Art Exhibitions are normally available to view Monday to Friday between 10am and 5pm .

1940's Weekend

Friday Evening 21 July, Saturday 22 July & Sunday 23 July

Plans are going well for the Leyburn 1940's Weekend. Jayne Darling is booked for singalong supper on the Friday 21 July.Tickets £10 from office.

Community Choir will be singing on Saturday afternoon.

There will be a Tea Party on Sunday afternoon to close the weekend. Military vehicles will be here, light refreshments available all day.

Grand Summer Draw to be drawn at 3.00 pm on Sunday as usual.








Dales Book Festival

Friday 4th 

The Dales Book Festival comes to The Old School House. A celebration of books and chance to meet inspiring authors:This year we have an amazing lineup of talented and inspiring authors, including:

Juliet Barker (10am to 11am)

Susan Parry (11.30am to 12.30pm)

Hannah Russell (1pm to 2pm)

LEYBURN ARTS AND COMMUNITY CENTRE FILM FESTIVAL - Friday 27 and Saturday 28 October 2017.  Celebrating cinema in its many different forms, we will be showing a selection of  silent, musical, classic favourites, biopic and a National theatre Live recording.  We hope there will be something for everyone to enjoy.  Full details of the films will be on the website in due course but a taste of what is to come follows:

Friday 27 October:

10:30am The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert

 1:30pm Laurel & Hardy Classics + Piano accompaniment

4:30pm and 7.30pm Our usual Friday mainstream film slots will remain, the film to be confirmed later.


Saturday 28 October

10:30am High Society

 1:30pm The Railway Children - NT Live Recording at York

4:30pm The Odyssey (2016 Jacques Cousteau Biopic)

Singing for the Memory

These sessions have now ended. There are sessions at Kirkwood Hall Leyburn


The Dales community Pop Choir

Every Thursday 7.45 pm to 9.15 pm (During term time)

Come along and join our Community Pop Choir. We are a relaxed singing group enjoying pop music and upbeat show tunes. We welcome singers of all abilities, you just need to have lots of enthusiasm! For more information call Debbie on 07789 071425 or visit our Facebook Page.

Singing for Pleasure

The group meets every two weeks on a Monday, 7.30 pm - 9.00 pm.

The Singing for Pleasure group has started up again. There are no auditions and it does not matter if you can't sing! "We just want to have fun and sing popular songs". There is no pressure or competitions! So it suits everyone!

Cost £2.50 per session.

The Walking Group

The walking group meets every Wednesday at The Old School House at 10.00 am sharp.

Enjoy a pleasant, relaxing local walk  in the beautiful Dales countryside with friendly people then have a nice drink in the cafe.

Just £2, including a drink.

The Tuesday Club

The Tuesday Club is a new exciting venture aimed at providing a place for local people to meet and talk. The purpose of the club is to provide friendship, entertainment and social activities for everyone who comes along.

The Tuesday Club meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month. If you need transport we will collect you from home, or a convenient stop off point and bring you to The Old School House in Leyburn for 2.00 pm. There you will spend a pleasant afternoon socialising and taking part in the activities and all for just £4 for the afternoon.

After a light meal we will take you back home around 5.00 pm. We would love to see you at every event but there is no obligation to attend every fortnight. If you would feel more comfortable being accompanied by a friend then bring them along as well, all will be welcome.

The Tuesday Club is also working with the Moors and Dales Community Connect Service. This service is provided by the Red Cross and aims to improve people’s well being, independence and quality of life by connecting them to local activities such as the Tuesday Club.

Wensleydale Camera Club

The Camera Club meets every Monday at 7.15 pm from September through until March.

Wensleydale Camera Club was founded in 1957 and is still going as strong today. We are a happy, friendly club with a wide range of members from old to young and always ready to welcome new members. Our club has beginers and experienced photographers so we like to offer a wide range of evenings / trips out that will be enjoyable and informative to all. Photograph by Christine Whitehead.

The Portrait Painters meet every other Thursday 10.30 to 12.30 pm.

Sitters always welcome and will be paid £15 per session.

Easy Does It!

Wednesdays 1.30 - 2.30 pm.

Gentle effective exercise to music for men and women over 60: Seated or standing to improve posture, balance, joint mobility, coordination and strength. Free refreshments after the session.

Provides the opportunity for retired men to meet twice a month, socialise and listen to talks. Held first and third Tuesday in the month 10.00 to 12.00 am. We normally gather from about 10am onwards for a cup of coffee, chat and a biscuit. The formal part of the meeting starts at 10:30 and a bit of administrative business is followed by a talk on some interesting topic or other. The meeting finishes at 12 noon.
