Yorkshire Silent Film Festival

We were really chuffed to be chosen to take part again in this year's Yorkshire Silent Film Festival.  We had two very well supported and much enjoyed screenings - the first one on a Tuesday afternoon when members of the public joined the regular Tuesday Club guests.  'Seventh Heaven' was a 1927 romantic drama whose star, Janet Gaynor, won the Best Actress award at the very first Academy Awards.  The film was accompanied by the harpist Elizabeth-Jane Baldry.  She played throughout  the film without a break - magical.  The second of our films was of a totally different genre - Alfred Hitchcock's thriller entitled 'Blackmail' - a sinister tale of crime and romance and with his traditional cameo appearance in the first reel.  Jonathan Best, the Silent Film Festival producer, set the scene with a fascinating insight into early silent film making and its musical accompaniment and the main feature followed our interval coffee and cake.  Jonathan's piano accompaniment was again superb and followed the mood of the film throughout.   Planning has already started for next year's event and we know that LACC has again been chosen as one of the elite Festival venues!
