The Film Selection Panel discuss all matters relating to the selection and advertising of films at the Old School House. We are not able to show new films at the same time as the major cinemas. A film cannot be booked for screening until it is going to be released on DVD. Only on a few occasions can a film be booked for screening a week or two before it is released on DVD.

Wadjda (PG)

Plot Summary:

Showing: Tuesday 4 July 7pm (Exploring Film - with subtitles)

Running Time: 1hr38m

Starring: Starring Waad Mohammed, Reem Abdullah, Abdullrahman Al Gohani

The first feature film shot entirely in Saudi Arabia, Wadjda is the story of a young girl living in a suburb of Riyadh determined to raise enough money to buy a bike in a society that sees bicycles as dangerous to a girl's virtue. Even more impressive, Wadjda was the first feature film made by a female Saudi filmmaker. In a country where cinemas were banned and women could not drive or vote, writer- director Haifaa Al Mansour broke many barriers when making this film in 2012.

We were due to screen this film in April but because of a power cut we were unable to do so.
